Before founding his eponymous house in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent honed his craft at Christian Dior, where he became the youngest creative director in the fashion world. His work at Dior, blending timeless elegance with modern innovation, set the foundation for a brand that would carry his name and redefine fashion forever.

When Yves Saint Laurent launched his house, he understood the importance of a logo that could embody his bold and forward-thinking vision. He commissioned Adolphe Mouron Cassandre to design the now-iconic interlocking initials, which balanced classic refinement with avant-garde modernity. This innovative spirit also defined his designs, like the Mondrian dress, which transformed Piet Mondrian’s abstract art into wearable fashion, bridging the gap between high art and couture.

In 2012, Hedi Slimane ushered in a new era for the brand as creative director. His rebranding, including the streamlined Saint Laurent Paris logo, emphasized minimalism and modernity while respecting the house’s legacy. Slimane’s impact extended far beyond the logo, as his sharp, rock-inspired designs set a new standard in men’s fashion and redefined contemporary style.
